It’s always interesting to visit winemakers whose wines you have enjoyed for years. Sometimes it can be disappointing, maybe the wines don’t show well or the winemaker is in a rush or a bad mood. Visiting Axel surpassed all expectations - he is a man of incredible generosity of time and spirit; a gentle soul, whose character translates very clearly into his wines. Although the area often struggles with drought, Axel produces delicate and fresh wines year on year. In the cellar, all cuvees including the white, see differing lengths of semi-carbonic maceration, with everything vinified mainly in fiberglass. Axel doesn’t use a pump with everything being fed by gravity.
