PRODUCER PROFILE

A family run winery, which was founded by the current winemaker's father, Alexandre Jorjadze in 1998 in Kakheti - the main winemaking region of Georgia. Georgia is considered to be the birthplace of wine with 8000-year history of wine production and one of the most vibrant wine cultures. Ikhalto has a very interesting history related to Georgian winemaking. Their family name Jorjadze belongs to a noble family of Kakhetian Princes, dating back to its origins in 980. Several representatives of this family significantly contributed to the development of Georgian winemaking. The current winemaker's great grandfather Alexandre Jorjadze (1855-1918) was a well-known winemaker and had admirers of his wine in Tiflis, the capital of Georgia. They are continuing a family tradition of winemaking, producing wines that they are proud of. Ikhalto is the name of the monastery that is next to the vineyards.
